The subscribers of the magazine Wallpaper* recently received a very interesting offer regarding the August issue as they were given the chance to design their own individual cover.

Using a specially created online application subscribers could select graphic elements from a variety of different artists and designers and then arrange them in any way they wished to create a cover that would be printed on to their very own copy of the magazine.

To make sure that the right people got the right cover the person's details were printed on to the cover itself but they were then supplied a separate sticker with 'The Handmade Issue' printed on that they could position over this text to hide this information. Any subscribers that didn't want to design their own cover had a unique design generated for them so no two covers were the same. Very clever!

This is such an innovative idea and really engages the subscribers with the magazine. It would be very interesting to know what impact this has had on subscriptions or single purchases for the magazine so people could take part but we will just have to wait and see if this is ever revealed.
